Pioneers into Practice volunteers

In the Fall 2015 two volunteers, Kristina and Lisa helped KÖME in the development process of the exhibition centre and its services. The two German students, study environmental sciences. They contributed to the educational material which aims to show the environmental and historical values in a holistic manner. They contributed to the development of the interpretive master plan which is under development and finally they have organized a programme for the local German minority school. Students visited the farm and took part on a workshop about environmental values which facilitated them in developing a new approach towards the forest around them. They also visited the historical sites: the ancient water system and the remnants of the church these were introduced by professor Laszlovszky form CEU.

Our two volunteer also initiated new project ideas. They started to outline a business model and a project roadmap to further visitor programs, a possible solution for financial sustainability to the institution to be established. They put a great emphasis on inclusivity so that low income social groups (who make up a significant part of the nearby settlements) would not be excluded from the visitor centre.

This volunteer programme was part of Climate-KIC’s Pioneers into Practice programme.
